Job Purpose
The Hospital Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, timely, and cost-effective dispensing of medicines while maintaining statutory compliance, managing the pharmacy store, supervising pharmacy assistants, and providing high-quality pharmaceutical care. The role supports the hospital's mission of "Healing the Whole Person – Body, Mind & Soul."
Key Responsibilities
Dispense medicines accurately against valid prescriptions.
Review prescriptions for dosage, drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, and appropriateness before dispensing.
Counsel patients on medication use, dosage, side effects, precautions, storage, and adherence.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy and pharmacy store.
Maintain adequate stock levels of medicines, surgical consumables, and emergency drugs.
Ensure proper procurement planning, vendor coordination, and timely replenishment of medicines.
Monitor expiry dates and implement FEFO (First Expiry First Out) and FIFO inventory practices.
Ensure proper storage conditions, including cold-chain medicines and temperature-sensitive products.
Maintain narcotic, controlled drug, and statutory registers as per applicable regulations.
Coordinate with doctors and nursing staff regarding medicine availability and suitable alternatives.
Supervise, train, guide, and schedule Pharmacy Assistants and other pharmacy support staff.
Participate in emergency services and ensure crash carts and emergency medicines are adequately stocked.
Support rational drug use and antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
Generate daily, weekly, and monthly pharmacy inventory and consumption reports.
Ensure accurate billing and minimize dispensing errors.
Participate in NABH quality initiatives, audits, documentation, and continuous quality improvement activities.
Ensure compliance with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, Pharmacy Act, NABH standards, and hospital policies.
Promote patient safety, confidentiality, ethical practice, and excellent customer service.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from a recognized institution.
Must possess a valid Pharmacist Registration Certificate (License) issued by the Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council.
Registration must remain valid throughout the period of employment.
1–3 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Fresh candidates with good aptitude and willingness to learn may also be considered.

Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of pharmacology, medicines, dosage calculations, and drug interactions.
Ability to independently manage the hospital pharmacy and pharmacy store.
Excellent inventory management and stock control skills.
Experience in procurement planning, purchase management, and vendor coordination.
Ability to supervise, train, and manage Pharmacy Assistants.
Knowledge of controlled drug documentation and statutory compliance.
Proficiency in hospital pharmacy software, billing systems, and inventory management systems.
Good analytical, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
Excellent communication skills in Tamil; English proficiency is preferred.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and during emergency situations.
Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Working Hours
Rotational shifts as per hospital duty roster.
Availability for emergency duties, weekends, and public holidays as required.
